BUENOS AIRES (Dow Jones)--Argentine banking group Grupo Financiero Galicia SA (GGAL, GGAL.BA) saw its second-quarter profit rose to 249 million pesos ($60 million) from just ARS46 million a year earlier, the company reported Tuesday.
The gain was mainly due to earnings from the group's controlling stake in Banco de Galicia y Buenos Aires SA (GALI.BA), Grupo Galicia said.
Banco de Galicia reported a net profit of ARS248 million in the second quarter, up from ARS73 million, the bank reported.
Banco de Galicia's net operating income during the quarter climbed to ARS550 million, which was partially offset by an increase of ARS381 million in administrative costs, Banco de Galicia said.
Grupo Galicia's shares surged 8.7% to ARS5.40 at the Buenos Aires stock exchange Tuesday, outperforming a broad market rally by a wide margin. The Merval Index of leading shares ended the day 4.6% higher. Grupo Galicia reported its earnings after the close of trade.
